Hey turnphilup:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g9nV7sSBYUo

This video is stupid but this tune was hot back in High School in the early 80's. Some of the guys in Maiden were into the Grateful Dead. [I kid you not]

I sure do remember that one for I was a junior in high school. Think it still holds up well and is not as stupid as you propose. Stupid is your continued proselytizing every so often. That was the intent of my Maiden reply.

My wife is part Native American so we are not to fond of the video (even if it is just campy)but the song kills.
I would hardly call posting resources two weeks ago as proselytizing. No matter I just as easily post to Facebook.

Not hating. Just annoyed. Your religious post remind me of when I go to answer a knock at the door, and while opening, realize that the Jehovah witnesses are back, but I have already committed to opening, so I have to waste my time getting them off my porch in a kindly manner. Just remember there are non theist here, who don't want to waste time on post unless it is actually related to the forums name. Peace. For the record, you posted the stupid campy video.

fair enough. I started this thread with a dead tune but it was followed with a Maiden post. Fine with me I like Iron Maiden so I posted one of my favorite tunes by Maiden from the time period I was into the band but as I said I like the tune not the video. (My preference)
Jehovah Witnesses come to everybody's door and the only ones glad to see them are probably other Witness people.
Don't know about you but I skim a thread and decide if it interests me and then if so I jump in.
Personally, no interest in drama so spending time in the music archive for the most part.
Don't wish anybody ill and hope for the same.
All Heads will always share that basic music bond of the Grateful Dead but as Jerry sang, "So many roads to ease my soul.
Or as Marley sang, "Every man gotta right To decide his own destiny And in this judgment There is no partiality." (Although in that song Bob meant it politically / even with armed struggle)
If you have a right to speak of NO god then I have the same right to speak of the Almighty.
But like so many things online it often comes down to who shouts the loudest and I want no part in any of that.
For my Master's Degree I did extensive studies on the role of the Reformation in the creation of the United States but so many folks have been so dumbed down they are unable to carry out a conversation that does not end up in name calling.
Also there is a lot of stuff on the DEAD IA that is completely and totally unrelated to the GRATEFUL DEAD but still reflects the varied interests of deadheads.
Hope Springs Eternal!

jrkoeller, very welcome, indeed!

I have more questions about you than you do about this website; but this website is a public library, so I won't ask you too many personal questions for all the world to read.

Being an interface researcher, you must know you are in a public library, so my first question is, where did you interface from to get here?

Second question, is your question more a question about what this particular forum at the public library is about, beyond the title "Grateful Dead Forum?" Please share with us your understanding of the "Grateful Dead," since it appears you are an explorer in new territory.

Is there anything else we can help you with?

Best wishes on your studies...many of the learned, not so learned, completely unlearned and just plain forgot are here for you.

I am a Computer Science Major at the University of Wisconsin/Milwaukee and my assignment was to examine the interface of this site and other possible usability issues. I have checked the site out and I see that there is tons of information in here from video, audio and texts. I don't know much about the Grateful Dead, I just thought I would use this forum to ask questions because in my experience, Dead Heads are more laid back and willing to reach out to people. I will post if i have further questions. Thank you for your time.

Strange factoid about IM: Dennis Stratton, who played guitar on the first Iron Maiden album got fired for listening to George Benson and 10cc records.

"This video is stupid but this tune was hot back in High School in the early 80's."

Seriously? This was the pinnacle of music videodom at the time: live shots edited with some type of extraneous footage—standard setting. And, dem Injuns? They crack me up on the bicycle built for four.
Actually, it's a beautiful hard rock tune: nice guitar intro; some catchy drum work on the chorus; lyrics that guys can memorize and a chorus that girls could sing along with. All you need now is a bonfire, PBR, and four-wheel drive.

Here's to the future:
